Regarding Jerry Coyne...

Courtesy of more tame and humane observations over at Shadow to Light...

But has anyone else noticed that Coyne is, well... something of a pussy?

I mean, I normally don't dip into that end of the foul language pool, but holy hell. Mister 'Jebus' who can't talk about a theistic idea or even personality without lapsing into namecalling, snide remarks, and mockery just lapses into the worst kind of whimpering, 'Why do you have to be mean?' pansy when an atheist or himself is mocked. Especially by a fellow atheist.

Really, check out StL. Look at the quoted exchanges. Dennett isn't even being a quarter of the asshole he is when he talks about dualism or the like. But Coyne is immediately quivering and offended and just the biggest dweeb on the internet in response.

I can just imagine how he'd react if he had a public debate with someone who flat out mocked his supposed intelligence instead of kowtowing to him as chief scientist in charge of fruit fly fornication.

And this is one of the reasons I absolutely love Dr. Feser. He'll not only mock people like Jerry Coyne, he'll mock them, and then when they get upset about it he'll mock them for getting upset.

With apologies to you Crude, of all of the bloggers and authors I follow, Dr. Feser is probably the least intimidated of all of us by the gnus - and that's saying something.

Ha. No apologies needed - I am not in Feser's class, and I don't pretend to be. He was the first philosopher I was aware of to really treat them as they should be. Instead of fawning over Dawkins' (long outdated) accomplishments, or trying to pretend that the New Atheists merely are guilty of innocent misunderstandings.

The real danger exists that we Catholic Christians & other than Catholic Christians will become(not that this has yet to happen mind you) just as bad as the Gnus.

It is easy for the scientifically learned Atheist to mock the scientifically illiterate YEC especially if said YEC chooses to continue to pretend he knows what he is talking about when he clearly doesn't.

We should strive to regognize legitimate challenges & difficulties to our beliefs over and against the simple minded challenges offered by the permanently baffled.

I just came from Vox day's blog where I defended the Biblical basis of the Papacy and Tradition and served up polemics against Sola Scriptura.

Vox's denizens pretty much where no better then PZ Myers. I laughed off their abuse and ironically didn't even once get mad. Rather I found their willful stupidity & butthurt beyond funny.

But at least one person tried to make a serious effort to answer me while the others just bitched & threw childish insults.

I felt like a little Feser. It was awesome.

Ben,

What did you argue about?

Also,

It is easy for the scientifically learned Atheist to mock the scientifically illiterate YEC

Atheists tend not to be very scientifically learned. And the ones that are, actually have troubles mocking the YECs in formal venues. (See: Nye v Ham.)

Ah, yeah. They're largely an angry protestant crowd there.

Sometimes nonbelief seems like a futile attempt to gain some intellectual credibility and unwarranted disrespect of spirituality is apart of the peer pressure. The worst part is that they expect you to allow it without a response because Jebus turned the other cheek. It's pathetic.
